Security Tips |
| At The Lock Company we endeavour to advise our customers on the best practice for home security, therefore we have put together the following list of simple tips to secure your home: |
THE BEST DETERRENT IS BEING PREPARED. MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO GET IN. |
* Install deadlocks on all doors to preferably to BS3621:2004 standard * Change locks or cylinders when you move into a new home. * Never give keys to a workman, except for your locksmith of course! * Install key operated window locks. * Have good exterior lighting under eaves. * Don't leave ladders and tools lying around, or in an unlocked tool shed - padlock it. |
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS |

* Photograph your paintings, antiques and other valuables. * Don't let unauthorised people in. * Make a note of the serial number of all your appliances. * Join your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme and display the Neighbourhood Watch and CCTV in operation stickers. * Don't put identification on a key ring. * Never leave notes on your door. * Install a door viewer to check unexpected visitors. * Preferably install an alarm system or at least fit an external dummy alarm box in a prominent position on the outside of the house. |
IF YOUR OUT OR AWAY |
* Lock the house, garage and shed. * Leave outside lights on night. * Arrange curtains and blinds in normal open and closed positions. * Ask a neighbour or friend to keep an eye on your house. * Shut your garage door and padlock it. * Advise your local police if you will be away for any length of time. * Re-direct mail, and ask a neighbour to clear your letterbox regularly. * Cancel newspapers, milk, etc. * Use timer switches on radio’s to give the impression someone is at home.
